Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate, and highly skilled Paediatric Nurses to join our dedicated Children’s Services team at University Hospital in Coventry. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert, evidence-based nursing care to children and adolescents with a range of medical and surgical conditions.
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, interpret clinical findings, and develop individualised care plans.
- Administer medications safely and accurately, including complex drug regimes specific to paediatric practice.
- Monitor patient vital signs, track progress, and effectively escalate any changes in condition to the medical team.
- Educate children and their families about their condition, treatment plans, and discharge instructions in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, adhering to NMC guidelines and Trust policies.
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless care coordination.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring the rights and best interests of the child are upheld.
- Participate in safeguarding activities, identifying and responding to concerns about child protection.
- Contribute to a positive and supportive ward environment, mentoring junior staff and students.
- Engage in continuous professional development and participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- Registered Children's Nurse (RSCN) or Registered Nurse (Child) with current NMC registration.
- Proven experience working in a paediatric clinical setting, ideally within an acute hospital environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of interacting effectively with children, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate paediatric nursing care.
- Sound knowledge of child development, common paediatric conditions, and safeguarding children practices.
- Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Competency in basic life support (BLS) and ideally Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Children's Nursing.
- Evidence of recent professional development in paediatric specialities (e.g., advanced paediatric assessment, high dependency care).
- Experience in a specialist paediatric area such as oncology, cardiology, or emergency paediatrics.
- Mentorship qualification or experience in supervising students/junior staff.
- Experience with electronic patient record systems.
