Job Description

First Bank of Nigeria Plc. is seeking a meticulous and highly ethical Audit Officer to join our dynamic team at the Misau Branch. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular and ad-hoc internal audits of financial transactions, operational procedures, and compliance with established policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the bank’s internal control systems, identifying weaknesses and recommending corrective actions.
  • Prepare comprehensive audit reports detailing findings, root causes, and practical recommendations for process improvement and risk mitigation.
  • Follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations to ensure timely and effective resolution of identified issues.
  • Assist in the detection and prevention of fraud, waste, and abuse by implementing rigorous audit methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of changes in banking laws, regulations, and industry best practices to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Collaborate with various departments to understand business processes and provide guidance on control design and compliance.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all audited information and adhere to professional audit standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of audit methodologies and tools.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in internal audit, preferably within the banking or financial services sector.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and audit management software.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant banking laws and regulations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting complex information clearly.
  • High level of integrity, objectivity, and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification such as ACA, ACCA, CIA, or CISA.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with data analytics tools for audit purposes.
