Job Description

Are you a master mixologist with a passion for crafting exceptional beverages and delivering memorable guest experiences? The Marine Hotel is thrilled to be opening a brand-new, upscale bar and is seeking a talented and charismatic Bartender to be a foundational part of our opening team. This is more than just a bartending role; it’s an opportunity to shape the identity of a new establishment, contribute to its success from the ground up, and grow with a prestigious luxury hotel. You will be instrumental in creating an inviting and lively atmosphere, designing and executing an innovative cocktail menu, and ensuring every guest leaves with a smile and a desire to return.

As a Bartender for our new hotel bar, you will be responsible for providing a full range of beverage services to our discerning guests, from expertly mixed cocktails and fine wines to premium spirits and non-alcoholic options. You will work closely with the Bar Manager and the wider Food & Beverage team to develop and maintain our beverage program, ensuring quality, consistency, and profitability. Your role will involve not only the art of drink preparation but also engaging with guests, understanding their preferences, and offering informed recommendations to enhance their experience. We are looking for an individual who embodies hospitality, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and possesses a strong knowledge of classic and contemporary mixology. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages with precision and flair.
  • Develop and execute a creative cocktail menu, incorporating classic recipes and innovative new creations.
  • Engage with guests in a friendly, professional, and knowledgeable manner, offering recommendations and enhancing their bar experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and well-stocked bar area, adhering to all health and safety regulations.
  • Manage inventory, conduct stock counts, and place orders to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Process payments accurately using the POS system and handle cash transactions with integrity.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of the bar, ensuring all equipment is in excellent working order.
  • Train and mentor junior bar staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Uphold the highest standards of service and presentation consistent with a five-star luxury hotel.
  • Contribute to the bar's promotional activities and special events to attract and retain clientele.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bartender, preferably in a hotel, fine dining, or upscale bar setting.
  • Exceptional knowledge of classic and contemporary cocktails, spirits, wines, and beers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a guest-first attitude.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using Point of Sale (POS) systems and handling cash transactions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant certification from a reputable bartending school or culinary institute.
  • Knowledge of local wines and craft beers.
  • Experience with bar opening procedures and menu development.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages (e.g., Afrikaans, Xhosa) is a plus.
  • Understanding of inventory management and cost control in a bar setting.
