Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and vigilant Gate Keeper/Watchman to join our security team at Protea Hotel by Marriott Benin City Select Emokpae. In this critical role, you will be the first point of contact for guests, staff, and visitors, ensuring the security and safety of our premises. Your primary responsibility will be to control access to the hotel property, monitor entry and exit points, and maintain a secure environment round-the-clock. This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong sense of responsibility, and the ability to act calmly and effectively in various situations. The ideal candidate will be trustworthy, physically fit, and possess excellent communication skills to interact courteously with all individuals entering and leaving the premises. This is an essential role in upholding our commitment to guest safety and operational excellence, contributing directly to the peaceful and secure atmosphere our guests expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and monitor all entry and exit points to the hotel premises, including vehicular and pedestrian access.
- Verify the identity of all individuals seeking entry, including guests, staff, vendors, and visitors, ensuring proper authorization.
- Maintain accurate and detailed logs of all incoming and outgoing vehicles and visitors for record-keeping and security purposes.
- Conduct regular patrols of the hotel perimeter and designated areas to detect and deter unauthorized activities or potential security threats.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to alarms and security incidents, escalating issues to the Security Supervisor or management as required.
- Enforce hotel security policies and procedures strictly to ensure a safe and secure environment for all occupants and assets.
- Assist guests and staff with directions and inquiries in a polite, professional, and helpful manner, embodying our hospitality values.
- Operate security equipment such as CCTV cameras, gate automation systems, and communication devices effectively and responsibly.
- Report any suspicious activities, security breaches, or hazards to the appropriate authorities immediately and document observations.
- Ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the gate area and immediate surroundings.
- Provide first-line assistance and guidance in emergency situations, directing individuals to safety and supporting evacuation procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with other security personnel and various hotel departments to maintain overall safety and security standards.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (at least 1 year) as a Gate Keeper, Watchman, or Security Guard.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to maintain logs and follow instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong observational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Good physical condition and stamina, capable of standing and patrolling for extended periods.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as per operational needs.
- Basic understanding of security protocols, emergency procedures, and safety regulations.
- Customer service-oriented approach with a polite and respectful demeanor when interacting with others.
Preferred Qualifications
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) or equivalent educational qualification.
- Prior experience in a hospitality or corporate security environment.
- Knowledge of basic first aid and fire safety procedures and certifications.
- Familiarity with CCTV monitoring systems and basic security technology.
- Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Edo, Yoruba, Igbo) is an added advantage for local communication.
