Key Responsibilities
- Assist elderly patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Help patients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation, using assistive devices as needed.
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs, intake, and output, reporting any significant changes or concerns to nursing staff promptly.
- Assist with feeding, ensuring proper nutrition and hydration, and respecting dietary restrictions.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to elderly patients, actively listening and fostering a positive and engaging environment.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment, adhering to infection control protocols.
- Assist with simple medical procedures and wound care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Document care provided, observations, and patient responses accurately and in a timely manner.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and patient safety protocols to ensure a high standard of care.
- Support rehabilitation efforts and encourage patient independence where appropriate and safe.
Required Skills
- Basic patient care skills (e.g., vital signs monitoring, personal hygiene assistance).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a gentle and understanding approach.
- Strong empathy, patience, and compassion, especially when interacting with elderly individuals.

Preferred Qualifications
- Accredited Nursing Aide / Caregiver certificate from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a hospital, nursing home, or elder care facility setting.
- Knowledge of common geriatric conditions, age-related challenges, and basic dementia care.
- Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
- Ability to speak isiZulu or another local language prevalent in the community.
