Job Description
We are actively seeking a talented, meticulous, and highly motivated Freelance Writer with a specialized focus on online articles and strong expertise in SEO content to join our extended communication team. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough and accurate research on a wide array of academic topics, institutional news, higher education trends, and community initiatives relevant to the University of Rwanda Huye Campus.
- Write original, high-quality, engaging, and error-free online articles, blog posts, press releases, and general web copy that are meticulously optimized for search engines (SEO).
- Strategically integrate relevant keywords naturally and contextually into all content to significantly improve search rankings and drive increased organic traffic.
- Collaborate effectively with the communications and marketing teams (remotely) to thoroughly understand content requirements, target audience demographics, key messaging goals, and editorial guidelines.
- Ensure all produced content rigorously aligns with the University's established brand voice, style guidelines, factual accuracy standards, and academic integrity policies.
- Revise and meticulously edit content based on constructive feedback, ensuring absolute clarity, conciseness, grammatical correctness, and maximum impact.
- Stay consistently updated with the latest SEO trends, evolving content marketing strategies, digital storytelling techniques, and academic communication best practices.
- Efficiently manage multiple writing assignments concurrently, consistently adhering to all agreed-upon deadlines and project timelines.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (2+ years) as a freelance writer, content writer, copywriter, or similar role, specifically focused on online platforms and digital content.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in English, with an impeccable grasp of grammar, syntax, and stylistic nuances.
- Demonstrable understanding and practical application of SEO principles, keyword research methodologies, and content optimization techniques.
- Advanced ability to conduct in-depth research from credible sources and synthesize complex information into accessible, engaging, and informative content.
- Strong self-management, organizational skills, and a high degree of independence, with the proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in using content management systems (CMS) like WordPress or collaborative writing tools such as Google Docs or Asana.
- A compelling portfolio showcasing at least three relevant published articles or content samples that demonstrate SEO expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a closely related field.
- Prior experience writing for academic institutions, educational platforms, research-focused organizations, or non-profit entities.
- Familiarity with the Rwandan higher education landscape, cultural context, and socio-economic development initiatives.
- Basic knowledge of digital analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) to inform and optimize content strategy.
- Ability to write proficiently in Kinyarwanda is considered a significant advantage.
