Job Description
ActionAid Nigeria seeks a highly motivated and experienced Humanitarian Aid Coordinator to lead and manage our humanitarian response programs in Lafia, Nasarawa State. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating relief efforts, managing resources, and ensuring effective delivery of aid to vulnerable populations. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of humanitarian principles and best practices. The role involves working closely with government agencies, local partners, and community leaders to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most. You will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of humanitarian projects, ensuring compliance with donor regulations and ActionAid’s internal policies. You will also play a key role in developing and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors, beneficiaries, and local authorities. This is a demanding but rewarding role requiring excellent communication, problem-solving, and cross-cultural collaboration skills. You will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team, demonstrating strong initiative and adaptability in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement humanitarian response plans in line with ActionAid's strategic objectives.
- Manage project budgets, ensuring effective and efficient resource allocation.
- Oversee the implementation of humanitarian projects, ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Monitor and evaluate project progress, documenting achievements and challenges.
- Coordinate with government agencies, local partners, and community leaders to facilitate aid distribution.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including donors and beneficiaries.
- Ensure compliance with donor regulations and ActionAid's internal policies and procedures.
- Prepare regular reports on project activities, progress, and challenges.
- Represent ActionAid at relevant meetings and forums.
- Contribute to the development of new humanitarian response strategies and initiatives.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of humanitarian principles and best practices.
- Proven experience in project management and implementation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in International Development, Humanitarian Studies, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in humanitarian aid or development work.
- Experience working in Nigeria, particularly in Nasarawa State.
- Fluency in English and Hausa languages.
- Experience with proposal writing and donor reporting.
