Key Responsibilities
- Monitor water quality parameters (pH, oxygen, temperature, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) daily and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Feed fish according to strict feeding schedules and protocols, observing feeding behavior and adjusting feed quantities.
- Conduct daily visual inspections of fish stock for signs of disease, stress, or injury, isolating affected fish and administering treatments.
- Perform routine pond maintenance, including cleaning, netting, and removing debris or unwanted vegetation.
- Assist with the harvesting, sorting, and packaging of fish for market.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of feeding, water quality, growth rates, treatments, and mortalities.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment, including pumps, aerators, and filtration systems.
- Implement biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of diseases.
- Participate in the stocking of new fingerlings and monitoring their acclimatization.
- Contribute to the general cleanliness and organization of the farm premises.
Required Skills
- Proven practical experience in fish farming or aquaculture operations.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of fish biology and aquatic ecosystems.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic for calculations related to feed, water treatment, and stock assessment.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work effectively in a team.
- Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, Biology, or a related agricultural field.
- Specific experience with Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and Tilapia species.
