Job Description

ActionAid Nigeria is seeking an experienced and passionate NGO Program Manager to lead and oversee our vital programs in Akwanga, Nasarawa State. This is a pivotal role for an individual committed to driving sustainable development and social justice within local communities. The Program Manager will be responsible for the full program cycle, from conceptualization and design to implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting, ensuring alignment with ActionAid’s strategic objectives and global standards. You will manage a dedicated team, cultivate strong relationships with local partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders, and ensure the effective and efficient utilization of resources. This role demands exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the socio-economic context of Nasarawa State, particularly as it pertains to vulnerable populations and human rights. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of all ActionAid Nigeria programs within Akwanga, ensuring they meet project objectives, timelines, and budgets.
  • Manage and mentor a diverse program team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, local government authorities, partner organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure all program activities are conducted in accordance with ActionAid's human rights-based approach, gender equality principles, and child protection policies.
  • Oversee financial management of programs, including budget development, expenditure tracking, and compliance with donor requirements and organizational policies.
  • Prepare comprehensive and timely program reports for internal use, donors, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor program progress, identify challenges, and provide technical support to field teams and partners.
  • Facilitate capacity-building initiatives for staff and partner organizations on program management, advocacy, and human rights.
  • Contribute to the development of new project proposals and fundraising initiatives.
  • Represent ActionAid Nigeria at local, state, and national forums as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in NGO program management, preferably in Nigeria.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects, including budgeting, financial oversight, and report writing.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and a local language prevalent in Nasarawa (e.g., Hausa) being a significant advantage.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including government, civil society, and communities.
  • Solid understanding of human rights-based approaches, gender equality, and sustainable development principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and project management software.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing contexts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working with international development organizations and donor-funded projects.
  • Familiarity with the socio-political and economic context of Nasarawa State.
  • Experience in advocacy and policy engagement.
