Presco Plc, a leader in sustainable agro-industrial operations across Nigeria, is excited to announce an opening for a highly motivated and experienced Agricultural Officer to join our dedicated team in Ekpoma, Edo. This pivotal role is instrumental in ensuring the optimal health, productivity, and sustainability of our agricultural estates within the region. As an Agricultural Officer, you will be on the front lines, deeply involved in overseeing and implementing best practices across various stages of crop production – from initial planting and meticulous cultivation to efficient harvesting and post-harvest management. Your expertise will be vital in identifying and addressing challenges related to crop diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies, employing modern, environmentally sound solutions and integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily farm operations, including planting, cultivation, fertilization, harvesting, and post-harvest activities for designated crops.
- Implement and monitor best agricultural practices to enhance crop yield, quality, and overall soil health.
- Conduct regular field inspections to proactively identify and accurately diagnose crop diseases, pest infestations, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Develop and execute effective and sustainable pest and disease management programs, incorporating integrated pest management (IPM) strategies.
- Provide expert advice and hands-on training to farm workers on proper farming techniques, the safe and efficient use of agricultural equipment, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Monitor prevailing weather conditions and advise on appropriate irrigation schedules and other climate-responsive agricultural measures.
- Maintain meticulous and accurate records of all farm activities, crop performance data, agricultural input usage, and yield statistics.
- Assist in the strategic planning and budgeting for agricultural inputs, machinery procurement, and labor allocation.
- Liaise effectively with agricultural research institutions and extension services to adopt new technologies, cultivate improved crop varieties, and refine farming methodologies.
- Ensure strict compliance with all environmental regulations, agricultural standards, and company sustainability policies.
- Prepare comprehensive and detailed reports on farm operations, identified challenges, and provide actionable recommendations for continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Strong foundational knowledge of agronomy, soil science, crop physiology, and plant pathology.
- Proven proficiency in modern agricultural techniques and practical farm management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and effectively manage common crop pests and diseases.
- Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex crop health issues.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for training, motivating, and guiding farm staff.
- Proficiency in accurate record-keeping and agricultural data management.
- Effective decision-making capabilities, especially when operating under pressure.
- Competency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for reporting and analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, or a closely related agricultural field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with large-scale commercial farming operations, particularly in oil palm, rubber, or other tree crops.
- Advanced knowledge and practical experience with precision agriculture technologies and sustainable farming practices.
- Familiarity with local agricultural policies, regulations, and market dynamics in Edo State.
- Ability to communicate in local languages common in Ekpoma (e.g., Esan, Bini) would be a significant advantage.
