Job Description

We are seeking diligent and community-focused individuals to join our team as Field Data Collectors. In this essential role, you will be on the front lines, gathering crucial agricultural and natural resource data directly from communities and farms across Cross River State. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct surveys, interviews, and observations using both digital and traditional methods, ensuring the highest level of accuracy and integrity in the information collected. This data is instrumental in shaping agricultural policies, evaluating program effectiveness, and identifying areas for intervention and development within the state.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work independently in diverse rural settings. You will be expected to build rapport with local farmers and community leaders, explaining the purpose of data collection clearly and respectfully. This position requires a commitment to travel within designated areas of Cross River State, often involving walking and navigating various terrains. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field surveys, interviews, and direct observations to collect agricultural and natural resource data from farmers and community members.
  • Accurately record data using provided digital tools (tablets, smartphones) and/or paper questionnaires.
  • Ensure the completeness, consistency, and validity of collected data at the point of collection.
  • Explain the purpose and importance of the data collection to respondents in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Adhere strictly to data collection protocols, ethical guidelines, and confidentiality standards.
  • Report daily progress, challenges, and any significant observations to the Field Supervisor.
  • Maintain all issued equipment and materials in good condition.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, local leaders, and stakeholders.
  • Participate in training sessions and debriefing meetings as required.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong observational and active listening abilities
  • Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with smartphones or tablets
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physical stamina and willingness to travel extensively within rural areas
  • Fluency in English and at least one major local dialect common in Cross River State (e.g., Efik, Ejagham, Boki)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Agriculture, Social Sciences, Statistics, or a related field
  • Previous experience in field data collection, surveys, or community outreach, particularly in rural settings
  • Knowledge of local agricultural practices and community dynamics in Cross River State
