Key Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Provide mobility assistance, including transferring, ambulation, and repositioning residents as needed.
- Administer medication under the supervision of nursing staff and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor and record vital signs, noting and reporting any changes in residents' physical or mental condition.
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and ensure residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
- Engage residents in social activities, conversations, and therapeutic exercises to promote well-being.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised living environment for residents.
- Document care provided and observations accurately in residents' care plans.
- Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and the healthcare team.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to resident calls and emergencies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Care Assistant or similar role (minimum 6 months).
- Strong understanding of elderly care principles and practices.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of empathy, patience, and compassion.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good physical stamina and ability to assist residents with mobility.
- Basic first aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- FET Certificate in Ancillary Health Care or similar qualification.
- Experience working in an old age home or long-term care facility.
- Knowledge of dementia care and other age-related conditions.
- Proficiency in local languages (e.g., Afrikaans, Setswana) spoken by residents.
