Job Description

Essa Academy is seeking an inspirational, strategic, and visionary Headteacher to lead our dedicated team and guide our outstanding school into its next exciting phase of development. We are specifically looking for a leader who can inspire and empower staff, effectively engage parents, carers, and the wider community as partners in education, and cultivate an environment where every student feels profoundly valued, appropriately challenged, and thoroughly supported to reach their absolute highest potential. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary and strategic leadership for the academy, aligning with the Essa Education Trust's overarching goals and values.
  • Oversee the overall educational provision, ensuring the highest quality teaching, learning, and assessment across all subjects and key stages.
  • Lead, inspire, mentor, and develop a diverse team of teaching and support staff, fostering a culture of professional growth, collaboration, and accountability.
  • Manage the academy's budget, financial resources, and physical facilities effectively and efficiently to support educational objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Ensure the highest standards of student behaviour, welfare, and safeguarding are consistently met, promoting a safe and nurturing environment for all.
  • Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with students, parents, carers, the Governing Body, and the wider Bolton community.
  • Drive continuous improvement in academic outcomes and pupil progress, utilising data effectively to inform decision-making and interventions.
  • Implement and monitor all school policies and procedures, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and educational best practices.
  • Act as the primary ambassador for Essa Academy, promoting its values, achievements, and unique ethos locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive school environment where all students are encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and personally, regardless of background.

Required Skills

  • Proven senior leadership experience (e.g., Headteacher, Deputy Head, Assistant Head) within a secondary school setting.
  • Demonstrable track record of significantly raising academic standards and improving student outcomes in a challenging context.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, capable of engaging diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong strategic planning, organisational, and decision-making abilities, with a clear vision for educational excellence.
  • Deep and current understanding of educational policy, curriculum development, assessment frameworks, and inspection processes.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower staff, students, and the wider school community towards common goals.
  • Robust financial acumen and proven experience in managing substantial school budgets and resources effectively.
  • Comprehensive understanding and unwavering commitment to safeguarding principles and procedures, ensuring student welfare is paramount.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) or working towards it.
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a closely related field.
  • Extensive experience leading a school or significant department in an urban, diverse, or multi-cultural setting.
  • Proven success in securing and maintaining positive Ofsted outcomes.
  • Experience working within or collaborating with multi-academy trusts and embracing collaborative leadership models.
