Job Description

GXO Logistics is seeking a highly motivated Security Guard to join our essential team at our state-of-the-art logistics facility in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire. In this critical role, you will be the frontline of defence, responsible for protecting our people, property, and assets, ensuring the smooth and secure operation of our high-volume distribution centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols of the site perimeter and internal areas, identifying and reporting any security risks or breaches.
  • Monitor CCTV systems, alarms, and access control points, responding promptly and appropriately to any alerts.
  • Manage vehicle and pedestrian access to the site, verifying credentials and ensuring authorised entry/exit for all personnel and visitors.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all security-related activities, incidents, and shift logs.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including fire alarms, medical incidents, and security threats, following established protocols and liaising with emergency services.
  • Enforce site rules and regulations, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards for all on-site activities.
  • Conduct visitor inductions and ensure all visitors and contractors adhere to site security procedures.
  • Provide a visible and reassuring security presence, actively deterring unauthorised activities and promoting a safe atmosphere.
  • Assist with internal investigations and provide clear, concise reports on findings.
  • Operate security equipment effectively and report any malfunctions or need for maintenance promptly.

Required Skills

  • Valid SIA (Security Industry Authority) Door Supervisor or Security Guarding License
  • Proven experience in a security role, preferably within a logistics, industrial, or corporate environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to articulate clearly and concisely
  • Strong observational and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging and high-pressure situations
  • Basic IT proficiency for report writing, email communication, and using security systems
  • A strong understanding of health and safety regulations and compliance procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as an integral part of a larger security team

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid at Work qualification or equivalent
  • Experience with large-scale access control systems and CCTV monitoring software
  • Previous experience in a logistics or warehouse environment, familiar with operational workflows
  • Full UK Driving License (beneficial for wider site coverage, though not strictly essential for this specific role)
