Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Mechanical Engineer with a specialized focus on industrial plants to join our dynamic engineering team in Wuse 2, Abuja. This pivotal role involves overseeing the mechanical aspects of large-scale industrial projects from conceptualization through to commissioning and operational support. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the efficiency, safety, and reliability of mechanical systems within our industrial plant constructions, encompassing a wide range of facilities such as power generation plants, manufacturing units, processing facilities, and more.
This position requires a deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles, relevant industry standards, and best practices in industrial plant design, installation, operation, and maintenance. You will be responsible for leading design reviews, conducting feasibility studies, managing project timelines related to mechanical installations, and providing expert technical guidance to project teams and clients. Your expertise will contribute significantly to optimizing plant performance, implementing innovative solutions, and adhering to strict quality and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design, engineering, and execution of industrial plant projects, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and safety regulations.
- Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including fluid dynamics, heat transfer, stress analysis, and vibration analysis for mechanical components and systems.
- Oversee the selection, specification, procurement, and installation of mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and piping systems.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), layouts, and technical documentation.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance during construction, commissioning, and operational phases of industrial plants.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources related to mechanical engineering aspects.
- Perform root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Collaborate with civil, electrical, process, and control engineering teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Implement and enforce quality control and assurance procedures for all mechanical works.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes relevant to industrial mechanical engineering.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Strong understanding of ASME, API, ISO, and other relevant industrial codes and standards
- Expertise in mechanical system design, analysis, and troubleshooting for industrial plants
- Project management principles and practices
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Professional engineering license (e.g., COREN registration in Nigeria)
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, PRO/II)
- Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) and predictive maintenance techniques
- Familiarity with HAZOP and other risk assessment methodologies
- Experience in specific industrial sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, power generation, or manufacturing
