Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Offshore Material Controller to join our dynamic team operating from Bonny, Rivers, Nigeria. This critical role involves overseeing all aspects of material management for our offshore facilities, ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective flow of materials, equipment, and spare parts. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records, coordinating logistics, and ensuring timely delivery of essential items to support continuous offshore operations and maintenance activities. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, robust organizational skills, and a proactive approach to managing complex supply chain challenges in a demanding offshore environment. You will be a vital link between our onshore logistics and procurement teams and our offshore operational units, directly contributing to the uptime and operational integrity of our assets. The role requires regular travel to and rotational work on offshore platforms and vessels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate inventory of all materials, equipment, and spare parts located at offshore facilities, ensuring optimal stock levels to prevent operational delays.
  • Oversee the receipt, inspection, storage, and issuance of materials to support offshore operational and maintenance requirements, adhering strictly to safety protocols.
  • Coordinate with onshore logistics and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials to offshore platforms/vessels, including chartering and managing marine logistics.
  • Implement and maintain robust inventory control systems (e.g., SAP, Maximo) to track material movements and consumption, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Conduct regular physical inventory counts and reconcile with system records, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure all material handling and storage practices comply with company safety standards, industry regulations, and environmental guidelines, promoting a zero-harm culture.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on inventory levels, material usage, and procurement needs to facilitate informed decision-making and optimize spending.
  • Identify and implement strategies for optimizing storage space and improving material flow efficiency offshore, including consolidation and standardization initiatives.
  • Liaise effectively with offshore operational personnel, maintenance teams, and contractors regarding material availability and requirements, providing expert advice and support.
  • Manage the disposal of obsolete or surplus materials in accordance with company policies and environmental regulations, promoting sustainable practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in material control, inventory management, or logistics within the oil and gas or maritime industries, with a significant portion in an offshore setting.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain principles and offshore logistics operations, including marine vessel coordination and cargo manifest management.
  • Proficiency in using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, specifically SAP or Maximo, for inventory management and reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy, capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic offshore environment, including extended shifts and rotational schedules, demonstrating resilience and adaptability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising effectively with diverse teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to strict operational procedures, with a proactive approach to hazard identification and risk mitigation.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks associated with material handling and inventory management in an offshore setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related engineering field.
  • Professional certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CIPS, CSCP) or Project Management (e.g., PMP).
  • Experience with material preservation techniques for offshore equipment and specialized hazardous materials handling.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian customs and import/export regulations for industrial materials, particularly those related to the oil and gas sector.
  • Valid BOSIET (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) and other relevant offshore certifications.
