Job Description

Are you a compassionate and proactive individual who thrives in a lively environment and loves working with children? The Ted Wragg Trust is seeking a dedicated School Lunch Supervisor to join one of our vibrant primary schools within Exeter. This vital part-time role involves overseeing pupils during the lunch break, both in the dining hall and on the playground, ensuring a safe, positive, and enjoyable experience for all. You will be instrumental in creating a calm and orderly atmosphere where children can relax, refuel, and engage in constructive play.

As a School Lunch Supervisor, you are more than just an supervisor; you are a key part of our school’s commitment to student wellbeing and development. You will encourage good table manners, healthy eating habits, and positive social interactions among pupils. Your watchful eye will ensure children are safe during playtime, mediating minor disputes, and providing comfort when needed. Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise pupils during the lunch break, both in the dining hall and on the playground, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Promote positive behaviour, good manners, and social interaction among pupils.
  • Organise and facilitate constructive play activities on the playground.
  • Administer basic first aid for minor injuries and seek appropriate assistance for more serious incidents.
  • Address minor conflicts and resolve disputes between pupils in a calm and fair manner.
  • Report any concerns regarding pupil behaviour, welfare, or safeguarding to the appropriate senior staff.
  • Assist with the set-up and clearing of the dining hall, ensuring a clean and organised environment.
  • Encourage healthy eating habits and ensure pupils consume their lunch appropriately.
  • Ensure adherence to school policies and procedures, particularly regarding health and safety.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach towards children.
  • Ability to manage and supervise groups of children effectively.
  • A good understanding of child safeguarding principles and practices.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong sense of responsibility.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Basic first aid knowledge or willingness to undertake training.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with children in a school, nursery, or childcare setting.
  • Relevant qualification such as an NVQ Level 2 in Support Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Current Paediatric First Aid certification.
  • Experience working with children with diverse needs or additional learning requirements.
