Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in structured workshop training sessions and theoretical classes as per the curriculum.
  • Assist qualified Mechanical Artisans with routine maintenance, meticulous inspections, and essential repairs of critical plant machinery and equipment.
  • Learn to accurately identify mechanical faults and effectively troubleshoot issues utilizing appropriate tools, diagnostic techniques, and established procedures.
  • Understand, internalize, and strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental regulations, policies, and operational procedures.
  • Develop proficiency in the safe and effective use of various hand tools, power tools, and specialized mechanical equipment.
  • Participate actively in the precise assembly and careful dismantling of mechanical components and sub-assemblies.
  • Maintain a consistently clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly stored and accounted for.
  • Complete all assigned tasks, projects, and theoretical assignments within stipulated deadlines and to the required quality standards.
  • Accurately document maintenance activities, observations, and contribute to systematic record-keeping as required.
  • Engage actively in continuous learning, professional development initiatives, and team meetings.

Required Skills

  • A National Senior Certificate (Matric) with a pass in Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine, demonstrable interest in mechanical engineering.
  • Ability to comprehend and meticulously follow complex technical instructions and diagrams.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and learning purposes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and keen attention to detail.
  • A strong work ethic, reliability, and an eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as an integral part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NQF Level 2 or 3 qualification in an Engineering-related field (e.g., Fabrication, Fitting, etc.).
  • Prior practical experience in a workshop or industrial setting (even informal, school-based projects, or vocational training).
  • A valid South African driver’s license (Code 08).
  • Fundamental understanding of basic mechanical principles (e.g., levers, pulleys, force transmission).
