As a crucial part of our events team, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of various functions, from corporate conferences and elegant weddings to vibrant concerts and festive celebrations. Your primary focus will be on delivering outstanding guest service, setting up and dismantling event spaces efficiently, and supporting our front-of-house operations to maintain our high standards of excellence. This role requires individuals who are proactive, possess a keen eye for detail, and are eager to contribute to a positive and professional atmosphere. Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, decorations, and equipment according to event specifications.
- Provide exceptional customer service to guests, anticipating their needs and responding promptly and courteously to requests.
- Support food and beverage service, which may include serving guests, refilling beverages, and clearing tables.
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of event areas before, during, and after events.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and company policies.
- Work collaboratively with the events, catering, and management teams to ensure seamless event execution.
- Assist with registration, ushering, and directing guests as needed.
- Handle minor guest inquiries and escalate complex issues to appropriate management.
- Ensure all equipment is handled with care and stored correctly after use.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift (up to 15kg), and carry items for extended periods.
- High level of attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by event schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a hospitality, event, or customer service role.
- Knowledge of basic food and beverage service standards.
- A valid First Aid certificate (advantageous).
- Familiarity with Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.
