Working remotely from Worcester, Western Cape, you will be responsible for reviewing user-generated content, identifying violations of community guidelines, and making informed decisions to uphold platform policies. Key Responsibilities

  • Review user-generated content (e.g., images, videos, text, live streams) across various social media channels.
  • Apply platform-specific community guidelines and policies to identify and take appropriate action on violating content.
  • Make consistent, accurate, and timely decisions on content removal, warnings, or account suspensions.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism while handling sensitive and potentially disturbing content.
  • Accurately document all moderation actions and decisions for reporting and auditing purposes.
  • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure a cohesive approach to content moderation.
  • Stay informed about evolving content trends, platform policies, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in ongoing training and calibration sessions to enhance moderation skills and policy knowledge.
  • Proactively escalate complex or ambiguous content issues to senior moderators or specialized teams when necessary.
  • Contribute to fostering a positive and safe online experience for all users of the social media platform.

Required Skills

  • Excellent command of English, both written and verbal (additional South African languages a plus).
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to make quick, impartial decisions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining productivity and focus.
  • High level of digital literacy and comfort navigating various online platforms and tools.
  • Resilience and emotional maturity to handle exposure to potentially disturbing or graphic content.
  • Strong ethical compass and commitment to upholding community guidelines.
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection and a conducive home office environment.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing policies and procedures.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a fast-paced, online customer support, data entry, or administrative role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in content moderation, trust and safety, or online community management.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and their community standards.
  • Tertiary qualification (Diploma or Degree) in a related field such as Communications, Media Studies, or Psychology.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the South African context (e.g., Afrikaans, Xhosa, Zulu).
