You will be an integral part of a dynamic kitchen environment, working alongside experienced professionals to deliver delicious, authentic Rwandan dishes to our cherished guests. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform various food preparation tasks, including washing, chopping, slicing, dicing, and portioning ingredients (vegetables, fruits, meats) according to recipes and chef's instructions.
  • Ensure all food items are prepared hygienically and stored correctly, adhering strictly to food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Assist the culinary team with basic cooking tasks such as grilling, frying, or boiling as directed by the head chef.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, kitchen equipment, and storage areas throughout the shift.
  • Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and report shortages to the kitchen manager.
  • Receive and properly store deliveries, ensuring quality and freshness of all incoming supplies.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including knives, slicers, and mixers.
  • Collaborate effectively with other kitchen staff and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth service.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations, including proper waste disposal and recycling procedures.
  • Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment by demonstrating teamwork and a proactive attitude.

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques (chopping, slicing).
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP principles preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift moderately heavy items.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience (6+ months) in a restaurant or catering kitchen as a kitchen assistant or food preparer.
  • Certificate or diploma in culinary arts or hospitality.
  • Ability to speak Kinyarwanda and/or French.
  • Knowledge of Rwandan cuisine and traditional cooking methods.
