Job Description
Are you an aspiring photographer with a keen eye for detail and a burning passion for capturing life’s most precious moments? Do you dream of working behind the scenes at vibrant events and in a dynamic studio environment? Nardus Engelbrecht Photography, a leading name in capturing authentic stories across Stellenbosch and the broader Western Cape, is offering a unique ‘learning role’ opportunity for a dedicated Photographer Assistant. This isn’t just a job; it’s an immersive apprenticeship designed to launch your career in professional photography.
As a Photographer Assistant at our event studio, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience across a diverse range of projects, from intimate weddings and corporate functions to lively private events and creative studio shoots. You’ll work alongside seasoned professionals, observing and actively participating in every stage of the photographic process. This role is perfect for someone who is eager to learn the technical intricacies of professional equipment, master the art of lighting, understand client brief interpretation, and develop efficient post-production workflows. We believe in nurturing talent, and we’re committed to providing a supportive environment where you can ask questions, experiment, and grow your skills under expert guidance. You will learn the importance of quick thinking, problem-solving on the fly, and the subtle nuances that elevate good photography to great art. We value your fresh perspective and enthusiasm, and we’re excited to help you translate your passion into a professional craft.
Your journey with us will involve more than just carrying equipment. You will be instrumental in ensuring seamless photo shoots, from preparing and testing cameras, lenses, and lighting kits to managing memory cards and batteries. During events, you’ll assist with positioning lighting, managing reflectors, and interacting with clients and subjects to ensure a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere. Post-production will be another critical learning curve, where you’ll assist with culling images, basic colour correction, file management, and preparing photos for delivery, gaining familiarity with industry-standard software. Beyond the technical aspects, you’ll also learn the business side of photography, including client communication, scheduling, and project coordination. This multifaceted role promises a comprehensive introduction to the professional photography world, equipping you with a robust skillset and a portfolio of practical experience. If you’re a proactive individual with a strong work ethic, a willingness to be challenged, and an unwavering commitment to quality, we encourage you to apply and become a part of our creative team.
