Job Description
Fidelity Services Group is seeking dedicated and experienced Security Officers to join our team for mall patrol operations in Sandton, Gauteng. As an integral part of our on-site security presence, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for shoppers, tenants, and staff within a prominent retail complex. This role demands vigilance, professionalism, and a proactive approach to security challenges. You will conduct regular patrols, monitor surveillance systems, respond to incidents, and provide excellent customer service by assisting visitors and addressing their concerns. The ideal candidate will possess a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to act calmly and decisively under pressure. Prior experience in a similar mall or retail security environment is highly preferred, demonstrating your capability to handle diverse situations, from deterring crime to managing emergency evacuations. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular foot patrols of the mall premises, including retail areas, common spaces, parking lots, and service corridors, to deter theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities.
- Monitor CCTV cameras and alarm systems, identifying and reporting suspicious activities or potential security threats promptly.
- Respond quickly and effectively to all security-related incidents, including disturbances, medical emergencies, theft, and lost children, following established protocols.
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting shoppers and tenants with directions, information, and general inquiries, maintaining a friendly and helpful demeanor.
- Enforce mall policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for all visitors.
- Prepare detailed and accurate incident reports, daily activity logs, and other required documentation.
- Collaborate with mall management, retail staff, and local law enforcement agencies when necessary.
- Conduct access control duties as required, verifying credentials and managing entry/exit points.
- Participate in emergency response drills and be prepared to assist in evacuations, first aid, and other critical situations.
Required Skills
- Valid PSIRA Grade C (or higher) registration
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in security, preferably in a retail or mall environment
- Excellent observation and communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
- Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities
- Physical fitness to perform extensive foot patrols and stand for long periods
- Basic first aid and fire fighting knowledge
- Proficiency in English; knowledge of other local languages is an advantage
Preferred Qualifications
- Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
- Advanced first aid or medical response certification
- Valid South African Driver's License (Code B)
- Experience with security technology (CCTV, access control systems)
- Previous experience in customer service roles
