We are actively seeking an experienced, dedicated, and highly motivated Restaurant Supervisor to primarily oversee our dynamic kitchen staff and daily operations at Umubano Restaurant & Bar. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, coordinate, and motivate the daily activities of all kitchen staff members, including chefs, cooks, and dishwashers.
- Ensure consistent adherence to all food preparation, cooking techniques, portion control, and presentation standards established by the restaurant.
- Monitor inventory levels for all kitchen supplies, fresh ingredients, and operational equipment, placing timely orders as needed to prevent shortages and minimize spoilage/waste.
- Implement and rigorously enforce strict hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards in accordance with local health regulations and company policies.
- Provide comprehensive training and ongoing coaching to new kitchen staff on restaurant procedures, menu item specifications, equipment usage, and safety protocols.
- Conduct regular quality checks on incoming produce and ingredients, as well as on prepared dishes, to maintain high culinary standards.
- Assist in the creation of efficient kitchen staff schedules, manage breaks, and ensure adequate staffing levels during peak service hours.
- Proactively address and resolve any operational issues, equipment malfunctions, or staff conflicts efficiently and professionally.
- Collaborate closely with the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager on menu development, execution of special promotions, and strategic cost control initiatives.
- Ensure all kitchen equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and functioning correctly, reporting any malfunctions or repair needs promptly.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and highly productive working environment within the entire kitchen team.
Required Skills
- Proven experience (minimum 2.5 years) in kitchen supervision or a similar leadership role within a reputable restaurant or hotel setting.
- Strong understanding of diverse food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and culinary best practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate staff to achieve peak performance and maintain high morale.
- Proficiency in inventory management, stock rotation, and principles of cost control.
- Thorough knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work effectively and maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.
- Strong problem-solving aptitude and sound decision-making capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, or a closely related field.
- Certification in food safety and hygiene (e.g., HACCP or equivalent).
- Extensive experience with Rwandan or other East African cuisines.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda and working proficiency in English.
