Job Description

Are you eager to launch your career in mechanical repair and maintenance? Horizon S.A. is seeking a motivated and hands-on Mechanical Assistant to join our dedicated repair workshop team in Muhanga, Southern Province. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity designed for individuals with a foundational understanding of mechanics or a strong desire to learn, providing comprehensive on-site training to develop specialized skills in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, vehicles, and various mechanical equipment critical to our operations. As a Mechanical Assistant, you will work directly under the guidance of experienced technicians, assisting with diagnostics, preventive maintenance, component replacement, and general workshop duties. You will gain invaluable practical experience across a wide range of mechanical systems, learning industry best practices, safety protocols, and effective troubleshooting techniques. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys practical work, has a keen eye for detail, and is committed to mastering the trade within a professional and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior technicians with the diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical systems on heavy equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and system checks, under supervision.
  • Help disassemble, clean, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and parts.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment within the repair workshop.
  • Handle and store tools and equipment properly, ensuring their availability and good condition.
  • Support inventory management by assisting with tracking parts and reporting stock levels.
  • Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Actively participate in on-site training sessions and continuous learning initiatives provided by the company.

Required Skills

  • Basic mechanical aptitude or demonstrated interest in mechanical systems.
  • Strong willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team.
  • Good physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor.
  • Punctuality and a strong work ethic.
  • Basic communication skills in English or Kinyarwanda.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of a technical or vocational training program in mechanics, automotive, or a related field.
  • Prior basic hands-on experience in a workshop or industrial setting (e.g., school projects, personal repairs).
  • Understanding of basic safety procedures in a workshop environment.
  • A valid Rwandan driving license (Category B or higher) is a plus.
