Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Corporate Lawyer to join our dynamic legal team in Nyanya, Abuja. This is a pivotal role for a professional with a robust understanding of Nigerian corporate law, eager to contribute their expertise to a reputable firm. As a Corporate Lawyer at George Ibekwe & Co., you will be instrumental in advising a diverse portfolio of clients, ranging from startups to established corporations, on a wide array of corporate legal matters. This role demands sharp analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to articulate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively. You will be at the forefront of structuring deals, ensuring regulatory compliance, and protecting our clients’ interests in a rapidly evolving business environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice to clients on Nigerian corporate law, company secretarial practice, and regulatory compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of corporate and commercial agreements, including M&A documents, joint venture agreements, shareholder agreements, and commercial contracts.
  • Conduct thorough legal due diligence for corporate transactions, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
  • Assist clients with company formation, corporate restructuring, and winding-up procedures.
  • Represent clients in corporate litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution mechanisms related to corporate matters.
  • Ensure clients' adherence to all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including those of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through effective communication and exceptional service delivery.
  • Stay updated on developments in corporate law and provide internal training and knowledge sharing.

Required Skills

  • Admitted to the Nigerian Bar with a valid practicing license.
  • Minimum of 3 years post-call experience in corporate law within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Strong understanding of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) and other relevant corporate legislation.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills (oral and written).
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • LL.M. degree or relevant postgraduate qualification.
  • Experience in specific industry sectors such as finance, technology, or energy.
  • Familiarity with international commercial law principles.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
