Job Description

SP Rwanda is actively seeking highly skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Long-Haul Truck Drivers to join our dynamic and essential logistics team based in Nyanza, Southern Province. This pivotal role involves the safe and timely transportation of bulk petroleum products, including various types of fuel and lubricants, across extensive routes within Rwanda. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure that our valued customers, partners, and company depots receive their critical energy supplies without delay, directly contributing to the nation’s continuous operation and development. As a Long-Haul Truck Driver, you will serve as the backbone of our supply chain, meticulously operating heavy-duty tanker vehicles over extended distances, often across challenging terrains and in varying weather conditions. Adherence to all national and local traffic laws, stringent company policies, and the highest health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) standards will not only be expected but is absolutely paramount. Your unwavering commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and unwavering professionalism will be critical, as you will be entrusted with valuable and sensitive cargo, serving as a direct representation of SP Rwanda’s commitment to excellence on the roads. This position demands not only exceptional driving prowess but also a strong, disciplined work ethic, meticulous attention to detail in all tasks, and the inherent ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a vital part of a larger, integrated operational network. You will be expected to diligently perform comprehensive pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections, meticulously manage load security, accurately complete all necessary administrative and regulatory paperwork, and maintain clear, effective communication with our dispatch team and depot personnel. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy-duty vehicles (tanker trucks) for long-haul transportation of fuel and lubricants across designated routes throughout Rwanda.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles, including tires, lights, brakes, fluid levels, cargo securement, and other safety equipment.
  • Ensure secure loading and unloading of cargo, verifying proper weight distribution and strict adherence to safety protocols for hazardous materials.
  • Strictly adhere to all traffic laws, company safety policies, hazardous material transportation regulations (e.g., ADR guidelines), and environmental protection guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery receipts, trip reports, fuel consumption records, and other required documentation, both electronic and paper.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, logistics managers, and depot staff regarding delivery schedules, potential delays, and any operational issues.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and promptly report any mechanical issues, breakdowns, or incidents to the relevant departments.
  • Manage time effectively to meet delivery deadlines while ensuring compliance with driving hours regulations and adequate rest periods.
  • Represent SP Rwanda professionally and courteously at all times, upholding the company's reputation.
  • Actively participate in ongoing safety training, refresher courses, and professional development programs provided by the company.

Required Skills

  • Valid Rwandan driving license, category CE (or equivalent for heavy goods vehicles with trailers).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable long-haul commercial truck driving experience, with a strong preference for tanker vehicle operation.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations or preventable accidents.
  • Proven ability to operate heavy-duty trucks safely and efficiently in varying road, traffic, and weather conditions across Rwanda.
  • Strong understanding and strict adherence to traffic laws, road safety regulations, and hazardous materials transport protocols.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for conducting minor vehicle checks and troubleshooting common issues on the road.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete administrative paperwork and maintain electronic logs (e.g., GPS tracking data).
  • Physical fitness to handle the demands of long-haul driving, including active participation in loading/unloading assistance and rigorous vehicle inspections.
  • Extensive geographical knowledge of Rwanda's road network and key routes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specific experience transporting petroleum products or other hazardous liquids.
  • Certification in defensive driving or advanced driver training programs.
  • Working knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repair procedures.
  • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route optimization software.
  • Basic first aid and fire safety training, particularly related to fuel transport.
