Job Description

Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual with a passion for supporting the elderly? Eldoret Hospital is seeking a skilled and empathetic Nursing Aide to join our care team, specifically focused on providing exceptional elderly support within our care home setting. This vital role involves assisting our senior residents with their daily living activities, ensuring their comfort, safety, and dignity are maintained at all times. As a Nursing Aide specializing in elderly care, you will be a crucial part of our multidisciplinary team, working closely with registered nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals to deliver personalized care plans. Your responsibilities will include helping residents with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and medication reminders, as well as engaging them in therapeutic activities designed to enhance their quality of life. We are looking for someone who possesses not only the technical skills but also the invaluable qualities of patience, kindness, and understanding, recognizing the unique needs and challenges faced by the elderly. You will be instrumental in creating a warm, supportive, and stimulating environment where our residents feel valued and respected. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
  • Support residents with mobility and transfers, using appropriate equipment and techniques to ensure safety.
  • Monitor and record vital signs, intake and output, and report any significant changes in residents' condition to the nursing staff.
  • Assist with medication reminders and ensure residents take their prescribed medications as per care plan.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship, engaging residents in conversations and recreational activities.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment for residents, including changing bed linens and tidying rooms.
  • Document care provided accurately and timely in residents' charts.
  • Assist with the preparation and serving of meals, ensuring residents receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, their families, and the healthcare team regarding care plans and resident well-being.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Certificate in Nursing Aide, Caregiving, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a care home, hospital, or similar elderly care setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and compassion for the elderly.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency procedures.
  • Physical stamina to assist with lifting, transferring, and supporting residents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or equivalent.
  • Additional certifications in geriatric care, palliative care, or mental health first aid.
  • Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Ability to speak local languages (e.g., Kalenjin, Luhya) in addition to English and Swahili.
