Job Description

Moriah Hill Resort is seeking a dedicated and proactive Maintenance Assistant to join our vibrant team in Karongi, Western Province. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with practical skills and a keen eye for detail to contribute significantly to the smooth operation and pristine condition of our esteemed resort. As a Maintenance Assistant, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetic appeal of all resort buildings, guest rooms, and public areas. Your general duties will encompass a wide range of tasks, from routine inspections and preventative maintenance to responding promptly to repair requests. You will work closely with the Head of Maintenance, supporting the overall upkeep strategy and ensuring that our facilities consistently meet the high standards expected by our guests and management. This role requires a hands-on approach, a problem-solving mindset, and a commitment to maintaining a welcoming and safe environment. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on resort buildings, guest rooms, and common areas, including checking for wear and tear, leaks, and structural integrity.
  • Execute general repairs such as basic plumbing (e.g., fixing leaky faucets, unclogging drains), minor electrical work (e.g., changing light bulbs, basic wiring checks), carpentry (e.g., repairing furniture, doors), and painting.
  • Assist with the installation and repair of fixtures, appliances, and equipment throughout the resort.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests from guests and staff, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
  • Conduct daily inspections of facilities, identifying and reporting any maintenance needs or potential hazards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance workshops, tools, and equipment.
  • Support the groundskeeping team as needed, including minor landscaping tasks.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate effectively with other resort departments to minimize disruption to guest services during maintenance activities.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance work performed, materials used, and time spent on tasks.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in general building maintenance or a related trade.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, and painting.
  • Ability to use various hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good physical condition and ability to perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and climbing.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
  • Previous experience in a hotel or resort environment.
  • Knowledge of local building codes and safety regulations.
  • Valid Rwandan driving license.
