Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages accurately and efficiently, adhering strictly to all established recipes, presentation standards, and portion controls.
- Engage with guests in a friendly, professional, and knowledgeable manner, offering expert recommendations, upselling where appropriate, and ensuring their complete satisfaction.
- Process guest orders and payments accurately using the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, handling cash and card transactions with utmost integrity and accountability.
- Maintain a scrupulously clean, organized, and comprehensively well-stocked bar and lounge area, including ensuring an ample supply of clean glassware, fresh ingredients, and well-maintained bar tools.
- Monitor guest consumption of alcohol diligently and intervene responsibly when necessary, adhering to all provincial and national liquor licensing laws and stringent company policies on responsible alcohol service.
- Manage inventory efficiently and assist proactively with stock control, including accurately receiving deliveries, conducting regular stock counts, and practicing proper product rotation.
- Collaborate effectively and harmoniously with other lounge staff, servers, and kitchen teams to ensure a smooth, synchronized, and efficient service flow across all operational areas.
- Adhere rigorously to all health, safety, and hygiene standards, including meticulous cleanliness practices and diligent responsible alcohol service protocols.
- Assist comprehensively with opening and closing procedures for the bar and lounge, including thorough cleaning, complete restocking, and accurate cash reconciliation at the end of each shift.
- Resolve guest complaints and issues promptly, professionally, and courteously, escalating to management when appropriate to ensure optimal guest satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 18 months as a Bartender or in a similar high-volume service role within a bustling restaurant, bar, hotel, or casino environment.
- Exceptional knowledge of classic cocktails, a wide array of spirits, diverse wines, and popular craft beers.
- Strong understanding and adherence to responsible alcohol service practices and all relevant liquor licensing laws.
- Outstanding customer service orientation and superior interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively, calmly, and efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and often noisy environment.
- Proficiency in accurately using Point-of-Sale (POS) systems for order entry and payment processing.
- Strong attention to detail, commitment to maintaining cleanliness, and excellent organizational abilities.
- Flexibility and availability to work primarily evening shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and special events as required by the business.
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal bartending certification from a recognized hospitality institution or a relevant hospitality diploma.
- Demonstrated experience with inventory management, stock control, and wastage reduction strategies.
- In-depth knowledge of the local Pietermaritzburg and wider KwaZulu-Natal craft beverage scene.
- Ability to communicate effectively in additional local languages (e.g., isiZulu), enhancing guest interaction.
