Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and thorough inspections of all cooperative properties, buildings, and equipment to proactively identify and resolve potential maintenance issues before they escalate.
- Conduct comprehensive preventive maintenance on critical mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to ensure longevity and operational efficiency.
- Execute a wide array of minor and moderate repairs and improvements in carpentry, painting, plastering, tiling, and general building fabric maintenance.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and replace plumbing fixtures, including toilets, sinks, faucets, and water heaters, as well as maintaining irrigation systems and water supply lines.
- Maintain and repair electrical systems, which includes inspecting and replacing lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, and performing basic wiring tasks, always ensuring strict adherence to safety standards.
- Repair and maintain building hardware such as doors, windows, locks, hinges, and ensuring all entry points are secure and functional.
- Oversee the cleanliness and general upkeep of all outdoor areas, including basic landscaping, gardening, waste management, and ensuring pathways and access routes are clear and safe.
- Respond promptly and efficiently to all emergency maintenance requests, prioritizing critical issues to minimize disruption and ensure safety.
- Manage, organize, and maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies, ensuring they are always in good working order and readily available.
- Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations, cooperative policies, and industry best practices during all maintenance operations.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs performed, and inspections conducted accurately and thoroughly in designated logs or systems.
- Coordinate effectively with external specialized contractors for complex repairs or installations that require expertise beyond the scope of general maintenance.
- Assist in the setup and dismantling of equipment or facilities for cooperative events or special projects.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in general property maintenance, facilities management, or a related skilled trade.
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical (low voltage), and carpentry repairs.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues effectively.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Required physical stamina and agility to perform manual tasks, including lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions and environments.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as an integral part of a team.
- Fundamental understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Fluency in Kinyarwanda is essential for effective communication with staff and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a technical certificate or vocational training in a relevant trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry).
- Prior experience working with agricultural facilities, large institutional properties, or community infrastructure.
- Basic knowledge of English or French for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
- A valid motorcycle driving license would be a significant advantage for efficient site visits and material procurement.
- Experience with preventive maintenance software or digital systems for task management.
