Key Responsibilities
- Identify, research, and pitch compelling local news stories and feature ideas relevant to the Okiep community.
- Conduct interviews with a diverse range of sources, including community leaders, residents, business owners, and local authorities.
- Write, edit, and fact-check accurate, engaging, and well-structured news articles for both print and digital platforms.
- Capture high-quality photographs and/or video footage to accompany stories, where applicable.
- Attend and report on local council meetings, community events, and other public gatherings.
- Develop and maintain a strong network of contacts within the Okiep community.
- Adhere strictly to journalistic ethics, legal requirements, and company editorial guidelines.
- Meet daily and weekly deadlines consistently, often under pressure.
- Contribute to the newspaper's social media presence by sharing and promoting local content.
- Monitor local news developments and emerging issues, providing timely updates.
- Provide regular reports to the editorial team on local activities and story progress.
Required Skills
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities in English.
- Proven experience in news gathering, research, and investigative reporting.
