Job Description

Are you a passionate storyteller with a deep connection to community life and a keen eye for detail? The Diamond Fields Advertiser, a proud member of the Independent Media Group, is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Local Journalist to serve as our Okiep Correspondent. This is a unique opportunity to become the authentic voice of Okiep, a historic mining town nestled in the heart of the Northern Cape, capturing its stories, challenges, and triumphs for a regional and national audience.

In an era where local news is more vital than ever, we believe in empowering communities through informed reporting. As our Okiep Correspondent, you will be at the forefront of this mission, tasked with unearthing the narratives that matter most to the residents. From local government decisions affecting daily life, to the vibrant cultural events, the significant developments in the mining sector, human interest pieces that showcase the spirit of Okiep, and critical analyses of community issues – your portfolio will be as diverse as the community itself.

We are looking for more than just a reporter; we need a community advocate who can build trust, foster relationships, and accurately reflect the diverse perspectives within Okiep. Your work will not just inform, but also inspire dialogue, hold power accountable, and celebrate the rich tapestry of life in this unique part of South Africa. You will be expected to immerse yourself in the local landscape, attending community meetings, interviewing local leaders, business owners, and everyday citizens, and developing a deep understanding of the socio-economic dynamics at play.
