Key Responsibilities
- Maintain security, order, and control within the correctional facility through vigilant and continuous supervision of offenders.
- Conduct regular and thorough inspections, patrols, and searches of persons, cells, and common areas for contraband.
- Monitor offender activities, enforce rules and regulations consistently, and respond appropriately to incidents, emergencies, and disturbances.
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive reports on offender behaviour, incidents, security breaches, and daily activities.
- Facilitate and supervise offender participation in designated rehabilitation programs, educational activities, and daily routines.
- Manage and escort offenders safely during transfers, court appearances, medical appointments, and other approved movements.
- Intervene in and de-escalate conflicts among offenders, employing effective communication and conflict resolution techniques.
- Ensure the humane treatment of offenders while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and departmental protocols.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, management, and other stakeholders to achieve departmental security and rehabilitation objectives.

- Knowledge of relevant legislation pertaining to correctional services (e.g., Correctional Services Act, 111 of 1998).
- Certification in First Aid and/or Basic Fire Fighting.
