Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of underground and surface mining operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance.
- Develop and implement strategic mining plans, production schedules, and operational budgets.
- Foster a proactive safety culture, ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
- Optimize production processes, enhance operational efficiency, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and productivity improvement.
- Manage and mentor a diverse team of mining professionals, promoting skill development and a high-performance environment.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, mining laws, and permits.
- Oversee resource allocation, equipment management, and maintenance planning.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, including community, government, and regulatory bodies.
- Prepare comprehensive reports on operational performance, budget variances, and safety metrics.
- Drive innovation and the adoption of new technologies to enhance mining operations.
Required Skills
- Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (South Africa)
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in hard rock mining, with at least 5 years in a senior management role (Mine Manager or equivalent).
- Proven track record in managing large-scale underground and/or open-pit mining operations.
- Exceptional leadership, team-building, and communication skills.
- Strong financial acumen and experience with budget management and cost control.
- In-depth knowledge of South African mining legislation, health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Proficiency in mining software (e.g., Deswik, Surpac, MineRP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in Business Administration or Project Management.
- Experience with VMS deposits and polymetallic mining operations.
- Familiarity with remote monitoring and automation in mining.
- Multilingual abilities, especially in local South African languages.
