Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced, and meticulous Tiler to join our dynamic and growing team in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal. You will be responsible for working on a diverse range of surfaces, including floors, walls, splashbacks, and specialized areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, handling various tile types such as ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaics, and large format tiles. Key Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces for tiling, including cleaning, levelling, applying waterproofing membranes, and priming, ensuring optimal adhesion and longevity.
• Measure and mark surfaces precisely to lay out work, ensuring accurate alignment, consistent spacing, and adherence to specified patterns or designs.
• Accurately cut tiles to specified sizes and shapes using a variety of tools such as manual tile cutters, wet saws, angle grinders, and nibblers.
• Mix and apply appropriate adhesives (e.g., thin-set mortar, epoxy, mastic) and grout according to manufacturer specifications, project requirements, and environmental conditions.
• Install various types of tiles including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic, and large format tiles on floors, walls, countertops, and other surfaces with exceptional precision and attention to detail.
• Grout and clean tiled surfaces meticulously, ensuring a smooth, uniform finish and removing any excess materials.
• Skillfully remove and replace old or damaged tiles without causing damage to surrounding areas or sub-surfaces.
• Competently read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout, design, and material requirements.
• Ensure all tiling work meets established quality standards, local building codes, and exceeds client expectations for durability and aesthetics.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times, properly disposing of waste materials and adhering to all environmental regulations.
• Adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and best practices to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
• Collaborate effectively and professionally with other construction professionals, including project managers, carpenters, plumbers, and electricians, to ensure project synergy.
• Provide accurate estimates of materials needed for tiling projects and realistic work completion times to assist in project planning.

Required Skills

• Minimum of 3 years of proven expertise and hands-on experience in all aspects of tile installation, including comprehensive surface preparation, precise cutting, expert setting, and flawless grouting.
• Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of different tile types (e.g., ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, large format), various adhesives, grouts, and sealants.
• Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, architectural drawings, and technical specifications.
• Strong understanding of national and local building codes, safety regulations, and best practices pertaining to tiling and construction.
• Exceptional manual dexterity, fine motor skills, and precision when utilizing tiling tools and equipment.
• An unwavering attention to detail and a profound commitment to achieving high-quality, aesthetically pleasing, and durable finishes.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt quickly to varying site conditions, unexpected challenges, and project modifications.
• Physical fitness, stamina, and the ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, standing for extended periods, and working in various positions (kneeling, bending).
• Valid South African driver's license and reliable transportation to and from various project sites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant trade qualification, apprenticeship, or formal certification in tiling or a related field.
• Proven experience with specialized tiling techniques such as intricate mosaic work, advanced wet room installations, custom shower pans, or underfloor heating systems.
• Possession of a valid First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of green building practices and experience with sustainable tiling materials or installation methods.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as an integral part of a larger project team.
