Job Description

Are you a compassionate and innovative educator with a profound commitment to inclusive learning? KidsAbility Therapy Centre in George, Western Cape, is seeking a dedicated Special Needs Educator to join our interdisciplinary team. This pivotal role involves designing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for children with a wide spectrum of special educational needs, including but not limited to autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, learning disabilities, and developmental delays. You will be instrumental in creating an engaging, supportive, and adaptive learning environment that caters to each child’s unique strengths and challenges. Your expertise will guide children through academic, social, and emotional development, fostering independence and self-confidence. We are looking for someone who can collaborate effectively with parents, therapists (occupational, speech, physio), and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and integrated support system. This role demands not just pedagogical skill, but also immense patience, empathy, creativity, and a genuine passion for advocating for children with special needs. You will be responsible for continuous assessment, tracking progress, and adjusting strategies to maximize learning outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each child's specific needs and goals.
  • Provide direct, one-on-one, and small group instruction using evidence-based practices and adaptive teaching methodologies.
  • Assess children's progress regularly, document achievements, and make necessary adjustments to instructional strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with parents/guardians, providing regular updates, guidance, and strategies for home support.
  • Work as an integral part of a multidisciplinary team (Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists) to ensure holistic child development.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that promotes engagement and emotional well-being.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching aids, assistive technologies, and sensory integration techniques.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records and progress reports.
  • Advocate for children's rights and ensure their voices are heard within the educational process.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a Special Needs Educator or in a similar role
  • In-depth knowledge of various learning disabilities, developmental delays, and behavioral challenges
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Strong understanding of child development principles and pedagogical approaches for diverse learners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, resilience, and a positive attitude
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and needs
  • Valid SACE registration (South African Council for Educators)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Postgraduate Diploma or Master's Degree in Special Education
  • Experience with specific therapeutic interventions (e.g., ABA principles, PECS, Makaton)
  • Fluency in Afrikaans (beneficial for communication with local families)
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary therapy centre setting
