Absa Bank is looking for a dedicated and meticulous Bank Teller to join our vibrant team in Soweto, Gauteng. This is a pivotal role that serves as the face of our branch, providing direct support and banking solutions to our valued customers. As a Bank Teller, you will be responsible for handling a variety of transactions with precision and efficiency, ensuring a positive and seamless banking experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

We are seeking an individual with strong numerical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and a keen eye for detail. You will be instrumental in processing deposits, withdrawals, cashing cheques, and assisting customers with various banking inquiries. Beyond transactional duties, you’ll have the opportunity to identify customer needs and guide them towards appropriate bank products and services, contributing to both customer satisfaction and branch growth. Key Responsibilities

  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, payments, and cheque cashing.
  • Verify customer identities and transaction details to prevent fraud and ensure compliance with bank policies.
  • Reconcile cash drawers at the end of each shift, ensuring all transactions balance.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding account balances, transaction history, and bank services with professionalism and clarity.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell and up-sell Absa products and services, referring customers to appropriate specialists when necessary.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of all bank products, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere strictly to all regulatory requirements and internal risk management protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and inviting teller station and lobby area.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures of the branch as required.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through friendly and efficient service.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 12 months experience in a customer service or cash-handling role.
  • Exceptional numerical ability and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to work accurately and efficiently under pressure.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (MS Office Suite).
  • High school diploma or equivalent (NQF Level 4).
  • Demonstrated integrity and trustworthiness in handling confidential information and cash.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A relevant NQF Level 5 qualification in Banking, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Previous experience as a Bank Teller or in a financial services environment.
  • Knowledge of Absa Bank products and services.
  • Ability to speak multiple local languages prevalent in Soweto.
