Job Description
Stefanutti Stocks is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Bricklayer to join our dynamic construction team in Cape Town, Western Cape. As a vital member of our project team, you will be instrumental in laying bricks, blocks, and other building materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, and other structures. This role requires precision, an unwavering commitment to quality, and a strong understanding of building codes and safety regulations. You will work on a variety of exciting projects, from large-scale commercial buildings and residential developments to essential infrastructure, contributing directly to the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of our builds.
We are looking for an individual who takes immense pride in their craftsmanship, possesses excellent problem-solving abilities, and can work effectively both independently and as part of a larger construction crew. Your daily tasks will involve interpreting blueprints and drawings, accurately measuring and cutting materials, mixing mortar, and ensuring all brickwork is level, plumb, and square. Attention to detail is paramount, as is the ability to maintain a clean and organised work area. Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine materials required and dimensions of structure to be built.
- Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other masonry units using mortar to construct and repair walls, foundations, arches, and other structures.
- Measure distance from reference points and mark guidelines to lay out work.
- Mix mortar, grout, and other compounds according to specifications, ensuring correct consistency and strength.
- Cut and trim bricks and concrete blocks to size, using trowel, hammer, and chisel or power saw.
- Check vertical and horizontal alignment of courses using plumb bob, level, and string line.
- Clean excess mortar from faces of bricks or block to ensure a tidy and professional finish.
- Repair and maintain existing brickwork, including pointing and rendering, as required.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
- Collaborate effectively with other tradespersons and construction site personnel to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 3 years as a Bricklayer in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction drawings.
- Excellent knowledge of masonry techniques, materials, and tools.
- Strong understanding of construction safety practices and regulations.
- Ability to work accurately and efficiently, maintaining high standards of quality and craftsmanship.
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant NQF Level 2 or 3 qualification in Masonry or Bricklaying.
- Valid driver's license and own reliable transport.
- Experience working on large-scale commercial or industrial projects.
- First Aid and basic fire fighting certification.
