Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geological and geotechnical investigations, including field reconnaissance, soil and rock logging, and instrumentation installation and monitoring.
- Perform complex geological and geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, settlement, liquefaction, and seismic hazard assessments.
- Prepare comprehensive technical reports, memos, and presentations detailing findings, recommendations, and design parameters.
- Develop and evaluate engineering designs for foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, and other geological engineering components.
- Provide technical support during construction, including reviewing contractor submittals and conducting site observations.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists, planners, civil engineers, and hydrologists.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, project scopes, and cost estimates.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to geological hazards and environmental protection.
- Utilize advanced software and modeling tools for geological and geotechnical analysis.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering with a geological focus, or a closely related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in California, or ability to obtain within 12 months.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in geological or geotechnical engineering.
- Proficiency in geological and geotechnical field investigation techniques and equipment.
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, engineering geology, and hydrogeology.
- Demonstrated experience with slope stability analysis, seismic design, and foundation engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software (e.g., GeoStudio, Plaxis, AutoCAD, ArcGIS).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geological Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with environmental site assessments (Phase I/II) and remediation projects.
- Familiarity with California regulatory agencies and processes (e.g., CGS, Caltrans).
- Project management experience.
- Experience with dam safety evaluations or water resources projects.
- HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
