Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Sound Technician to join our technical production team at the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the highest quality audio experience for all events hosted within our expansive facilities. From intricate convention presentations to high-energy concerts and theatrical productions, your expertise in live sound reinforcement, mixing, and system operation will be paramount. This position requires a keen ear, a deep understanding of audio engineering principles, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for the setup, operation, and strike of audio equipment, providing on-site technical support, and collaborating closely with event planners, performers, and other technical staff to bring their visions to life. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and mix live sound for a variety of events, including conventions, concerts, theatrical performances, and corporate meetings.
- Set up, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex audio systems, including FOH, monitor, wireless microphones, and digital/analog consoles.
- Conduct pre-event checks, sound checks, and provide ongoing technical support during events to ensure seamless audio delivery.
- Maintain, repair, and organize audio equipment, ensuring all gear is in excellent working condition and inventoried properly.
- Collaborate with event managers, clients, performers, and other technical departments (lighting, video) to achieve overall production goals.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and best practices for equipment handling, rigging, and electrical connections.
- Assist with load-in and load-out procedures for events, ensuring efficient and safe handling of all audio equipment.
- Stay updated on industry trends, new audio technologies, and best practices to continually enhance service quality.
- Provide clear and concise communication to all stakeholders regarding audio requirements and technical specifications.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Sound Technician in a live event or venue setting.
- Proficiency in operating digital and analog audio mixing consoles (e.g., Yamaha, Avid, Midas, Behringer).
- Strong understanding of acoustics, signal flow, gain structure, and equalization techniques.
- Expertise in setting up and troubleshooting various types of audio equipment, including microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and processing gear.
- Familiarity with wireless microphone systems and RF coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and audio schematics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively in a team environment.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in various physical positions, including standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Certifications in audio software (e.g., Dante, Waves) or specific console training.
- Experience with large-scale touring productions or convention center environments.
- Knowledge of theatrical lighting and video systems is a plus.
- Experience with intercom systems and event communication protocols.
