Chesapeake Utilities Corporation is seeking a visionary, results-oriented, and highly strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our executive leadership team. This pivotal role will be instrumental in shaping the financial strategy and ensuring the sustainable operational excellence of our growing organization. As CFO, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial functions, including accounting, treasury, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), investor relations, risk management, and tax. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of the company's financial operations, including accounting, treasury, tax, investor relations, and comprehensive financial planning & analysis.
- Develop and execute transformative financial strategies that align directly with the company’s long-term business objectives and rigorously drive sustainable growth and profitability.
- Oversee the meticulous preparation of all financial reporting, ensuring absolute accuracy, timeliness, and strict compliance with GAAP, SEC regulations, and other relevant financial standards.
- Manage the company’s capital structure, debt financing, and cash flow to strategically optimize financial resources and continuously enhance shareholder value.
- Provide expert financial analysis, insightful projections, and critical strategic guidance to the CEO and Board of Directors regarding performance, market trends, and pivotal strategic opportunities.
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting processes, establishing robust financial controls, key performance indicators, and metrics to rigorously monitor and evaluate financial performance.
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks, implementing comprehensive strategies to ensure business continuity, regulatory compliance, and asset protection.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, professional development, and collaborative excellence.
- Cultivate and manage robust relationships with financial institutions, investors, external auditors, regulatory bodies, and other critical external stakeholders.
- Rigorously evaluate potential mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities, divestitures, and strategic partnerships from a comprehensive financial perspective, including due diligence and integration planning.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in a CFO or equivalent senior executive finance role in a publicly traded company.
- Proven experience within the utilities, energy, or a similarly regulated capital-intensive industry.
- Exceptional knowledge of GAAP, SEC reporting requirements, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance, and corporate governance best practices.
- Superior analytical, strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to expertly manage treasury functions, navigate capital markets, and lead investor relations.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing at all organizational levels.
- Advanced proficiency with financial software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and business intelligence tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree (MBA) from an accredited institution or CPA certification highly preferred.
- Extensive experience with mergers, acquisitions, and integration processes from a financial leadership standpoint.
