Job Description

Northrop Grumman is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aerospace Machinist to join our dynamic and innovative team in Warner Robins, Georgia. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for the precise setup, operation, and maintenance of a variety of advanced machining equipment, including Computer Numerical Control (CNC) mills, lathes, and grinders. Your primary objective will be to produce high-precision components for complex aerospace and defense systems, working with an array of materials that include exotic alloys, superalloys, and advanced composites. This position demands an unwavering commitment to quality and safety, ensuring all manufactured parts rigorously adhere to stringent aerospace quality standards, engineering specifications, and tight tolerances.

The Aerospace Machinist plays a crucial role in our manufacturing process, directly contributing to the integrity, reliability, and performance of mission-critical systems that protect our nation. You will be expected to interpret and work from intricate blueprints, technical drawings, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) models, and detailed engineering instructions, translating these into precise machine operations and finished components. Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and program CNC and conventional machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders) to produce aerospace components.
  • Interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD models to determine machining operations, sequences, and dimensional specifications.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMM) to ensure compliance with tight tolerances and quality standards.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs to ensure optimal machine performance and longevity.
  • Select and utilize appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for each job, optimizing for efficiency and part quality.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols, quality management systems, and company procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and improve processes.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a precision machinist in an aerospace or defense manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC milling machines and lathes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Experience working with various materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and other exotic alloys.
  • Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and bore gauges.
  • Demonstrated understanding of machining feeds, speeds, and cutting tool selection.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or vocational certification in Machining Technology, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced CNC programming (G-code, M-code) and CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, CATIA, NX).
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace manufacturing processes.
  • Experience operating 5-axis machining centers.
  • Ability to operate and interpret results from Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
