Job Description
The University of Georgia is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and dedicated Athletic Coach to join our esteemed athletics department. This pivotal role involves the comprehensive development of student-athletes, both on and off the field of play, within a specific sport. The successful candidate will be instrumental in cultivating a winning culture built on principles of discipline, teamwork, academic integrity, and personal growth. You will be responsible for planning and executing effective training programs, scouting and recruiting talented prospective student-athletes who align with UGA’s values, and ensuring strict adherence to all NCAA, SEC, and University rules and regulations. This position demands a passionate leader who can inspire excellence, foster resilience, and instill a strong sense of sportsmanship and ethical conduct. Beyond athletic performance, the coach will serve as a mentor, guiding student-athletes through their academic journeys, promoting their well-being, and preparing them for successful lives beyond their collegiate careers. You will work collaboratively with other coaching staff, athletic trainers, academic support services, and departmental administrators to create a supportive and challenging environment for our student-athletes. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and supervise comprehensive training programs, practice plans, and game strategies for student-athletes.
- Scout, recruit, and evaluate prospective student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, SEC, and University guidelines.
- Monitor and support the academic progress and overall well-being of student-athletes, ensuring compliance with academic eligibility requirements.
- Provide effective leadership, mentorship, and guidance to student-athletes, fostering their personal, social, and athletic development.
- Manage program budgets, travel arrangements, and equipment inventory efficiently and responsibly.
- Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA, SEC, and University rules, regulations, and policies, emphasizing ethical conduct and sportsmanship.
- Collaborate with athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, academic support staff, and other departments to provide holistic support for student-athletes.
- Actively participate in departmental meetings, community outreach initiatives, and fundraising efforts.
- Assist in the scheduling of competitions and manage game-day operations.
- Cultivate a positive team culture focused on respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in a specific sport (e.g., football, basketball, soccer, track & field, etc.).
- Proven ability to teach, motivate, and develop student-athletes to their full potential.
- Strong understanding and commitment to NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.
- Excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with diverse staff and student populations.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly in managing schedules, budgets, and recruiting processes.
- Proficiency in relevant sports technology and analytics tools.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively for recruiting and competitions.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field (e.g., Kinesiology, Sports Management, Education).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate level or equivalent high-level competitive experience.
- Former collegiate playing experience in a relevant sport.
- Experience with collegiate athletic recruiting databases and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and build strong rapport with student-athletes, parents, and community stakeholders.
- Knowledge of sports psychology and athlete well-being best practices.
