Key Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service, assisting patrons with product selection, offering recommendations, and answering questions in a friendly and professional manner.
- Operate deli equipment such as slicers, scales, and ovens safely and efficiently, following all safety protocols.
- Prepare and package various deli items, including slicing meats and cheeses to customer specifications, preparing salads, sandwiches, and hot food items.
- Maintain accurate inventory control by stocking, rotating, and organizing products in display cases and storage areas, ensuring proper date rotation.
- Ensure the deli area, equipment, and utensils are kept clean, sanitized, and organized in accordance with food safety standards and company policies at all times.
- Monitor product freshness and quality, disposing of expired or substandard items promptly and properly.
- Handle cash and credit transactions accurately at the deli counter, providing correct change and processing payments efficiently.
- Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines set by local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies.
- Assist with special orders and catering requests as needed, ensuring accuracy and timely preparation.
- Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth department operations and overall customer satisfaction.
Required Skills
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic math skills for weighing products, pricing, and handling transactions accurately.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and stand for extended periods throughout a shift.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to strict food safety and sanitation procedures and guidelines.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic and commitment to team success.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (6+ months) in a deli, grocery, or food service environment.
- Knowledge of different types of deli meats, cheeses, and prepared foods.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Food Handler's Permit (or willingness to obtain one upon hire).
