Key Responsibilities
- Perform general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, edging, and weeding of park areas, athletic fields, and landscaped beds.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, and hand tools safely and effectively.
- Conduct routine inspections and repairs of park facilities, including playgrounds, restrooms, shelters, benches, and fences.
- Assist with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers, and preparation of garden areas.
- Remove trash, debris, and fallen branches from park grounds and facilities to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Provide support for special events, including setting up and taking down equipment, and ensuring park areas are presentable.
- Perform snow and ice removal during winter months as needed, maintaining clear pathways and parking lots.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and departmental policies while performing duties, reporting any hazards or incidents promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment usage, and material inventory.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a related field.
- Possession of a valid Indiana Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate various hand and power tools safely and proficiently.
- Physical ability to perform strenuous work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of plant care, turf management, and general maintenance practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers, or loaders.
- Certification in pesticide application or willingness to obtain within a specified timeframe.
- Knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, or electrical repairs.
- Associate’s degree or vocational training in horticulture, park management, or a related field.
