Job Description
Oklahoma State University is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Crop Scientist to contribute to our ongoing research initiatives focused on improving crop yields, enhancing stress tolerance, and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the research process, from experimental design and data collection to analysis and publication. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a collaborative environment with leading researchers and contribute to advancements in agricultural science with significant impact on Oklahoma’s agricultural economy. Specific responsibilities will include developing and implementing research projects, analyzing data using statistical software, preparing scientific reports and publications, presenting research findings at conferences and workshops, collaborating with other researchers and stakeholders, seeking grant funding opportunities, and assisting with the supervision of graduate students and research assistants. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in conducting independent research and a strong commitment to mentoring and collaboration. This position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and a passion for advancing agricultural science.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement research projects related to crop improvement and sustainable agriculture.
- Design and conduct field experiments, collect and analyze data using appropriate statistical methods.
- Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, and presentations for publication and dissemination.
- Collaborate with other researchers, stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Seek external funding opportunities to support research initiatives.
- Supervise graduate students and research assistants.
- Contribute to the overall mission of the department and university.
Required Skills
- PhD in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Crop Science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of plant physiology, genetics, and breeding principles.
- Experience in designing and conducting field experiments.
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, R).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.
- Experience with genomic selection or other advanced breeding techniques.
- Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices.
