Key Responsibilities
- Assist skilled tradespeople (carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, etc.) with various tasks as directed by supervisors or foremen.
- Load, unload, and safely transport construction materials, tools, and equipment to designated areas on the job site, ensuring efficient material flow.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment by sweeping, removing debris, and ensuring proper waste disposal throughout the workday.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision, adhering to all operational guidelines and safety protocols.
- Prepare work areas by setting up scaffolding, temporary barriers, caution tape, and other essential safety equipment.
- Perform general site upkeep, including cleaning up spills, spreading gravel, digging shallow trenches, and other manual labor tasks.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures rigorously, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with supervisors, project managers, and team members to ensure smooth project progression and problem-solving.
- Provide support for light demolition activities, as needed, ensuring all safety protocols are meticulously followed to prevent incidents.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of temporary facilities, equipment, and work zones at the beginning and end of each workday or project phase.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs consistently) and perform strenuous physical tasks for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Basic understanding of construction site safety practices and an unwavering willingness to learn and adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reliable transportation to and from job sites located primarily in the Downtown, Louisville area, ensuring punctuality and consistent attendance.
- Strong work ethic, demonstrated punctuality, and a positive, team-oriented 'can-do' attitude essential for collaborative project success.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team and efficiently follow detailed instructions from supervisors and experienced tradespeople.
- Basic proficiency with common hand tools (e.g., hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, levels) and willingness to learn more specialized equipment.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other environmental factors inherent to construction.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience (6+ months) in a construction, general labor, or other physically demanding role is highly advantageous but not strictly required.
- Possession of an OSHA 10 or 30-hour construction safety certification, demonstrating a foundational commitment to workplace safety.
- Familiarity with operating construction equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, or other heavy machinery is a plus, though not a prerequisite.
