Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field during surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide appropriate instrumentation and supplies.
- Assist with draping, gowning, and gloving, ensuring strict adherence to aseptic techniques.
- Count sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse before, during, and after surgery.
- Handle specimens appropriately and pass them off to the circulating nurse.
- Maintain an organized surgical back table and mayo stand throughout the procedure.
- Assist in the turnover of the operating room, ensuring efficiency and readiness for the next case.
- Ensure all surgical equipment is functioning properly and troubleshoot minor issues.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification through NBSTSA.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Proficiency in aseptic technique and sterile processing.
- Strong understanding of surgical anatomy and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and quality care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in various surgical specialties (e.g., Orthopedics, General Surgery, OB/GYN).
- Associate's Degree in Surgical Technology.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Membership in a professional surgical technologist organization.
