Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic engineering team in Lagos. As an SRE at MTN Nigeria, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our large-scale distributed systems and services. You will combine your software engineering expertise with a deep understanding of infrastructure operations to build and maintain robust, fault-tolerant systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable, and efficient infrastructure and applications.
- Develop and improve monitoring, alerting, and logging systems to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Automate repetitive tasks and manual processes to reduce operational toil and improve efficiency.
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical systems and respond to incidents.
- Conduct root cause analysis for production incidents and implement preventative measures.
- Collaborate with development teams to ensure new features and services are designed for reliability and operational excellence.
- Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and on-premise data centers.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to streamline software deployment and ensure consistent quality.
- Define, measure, and report on key reliability metrics (SLAs, SLOs, SLIs).
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Site Reliability Engineer or similar role (DevOps, Systems Engineer).
- Strong proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, Java, or Ruby).
- Extensive experience with Linux operating systems and shell scripting.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, Load Balancing, Firewalls).
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
- Experience with CI/CD tools and methodologies (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect).
- Experience with large-scale data processing and database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Kafka).
- Familiarity with telecommunications infrastructure and technologies.
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization of applications and databases.
