Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Feed Mill Operator to join our dedicated team at Perdue Farms in Salisbury, Maryland. This is a pivotal role within our operations, as you will be directly responsible for the precise and efficient production of high-quality animal feed, a critical component in ensuring the health and growth of our livestock. As a Feed Mill Operator, you will master the operation of sophisticated feed manufacturing equipment, including but not limited to grinders, mixers, pellet mills, and bagging systems. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor all aspects of feed mill equipment, including grinders, mixers, pellet mills, and bagging lines, ensuring optimal performance and adherence to established production schedules and quality standards.
- Conduct thorough and routine quality control checks on incoming raw materials and outgoing finished feed products, ensuring all specifications and regulatory requirements are consistently met.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels of raw ingredients and finished feed, assisting with accurate material handling, storage, and rotation as needed to prevent spoilage and ensure freshness.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks and conduct minor troubleshooting on machinery to ensure continuous operation, minimize downtime, and extend equipment lifespan.
- Maintain an exceptionally clean and organized work environment, strictly adhering to all company sanitation, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
- Rigorously follow all company safety protocols, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures, confined space entry, and forklift operation, promptly reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
- Accurately record and document all production data, equipment operational logs, and quality control results, ensuring precise record-keeping for audit and analysis.
- Collaborate effectively and professionally with team members, supervisors, and other departments to achieve collective production goals and foster a cooperative work environment.
- Load and unload materials and products using a forklift or other heavy machinery, as required, ensuring safe and efficient movement of goods.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to dust, varying temperatures, and potential allergens from feed ingredients.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proven ability to operate and understand industrial machinery.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry, process monitoring, and communication.
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, stand for extended periods, walk, bend, climb stairs/ladders, and perform other physical tasks inherent to a mill environment.
- An unwavering commitment to safety procedures, regulations, and a proactive approach to hazard identification.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong observational skills to monitor processes and product quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing or production environment, with direct experience in a feed mill or agricultural processing setting highly preferred.
- Valid forklift certification or demonstrated experience operating a forklift and other heavy material handling equipment.
- Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP principles, and other food safety regulations.
- Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support 24/7 operations.
